The Upper Valley Joint Vocational School is provided for students who have the interest and the ability to profit from courses in vocational education. There are no tuition charges to the JVS students other than lab fees. The primary purpose of the Upper Valley JVS is to prepare students for employment as skilled workers. However, graduates may enter post-high school training in technical schools or colleges.
Students study vocational and academic subjects at Upper Valley JVS. Each day a three hour block of time is spent in laboratories, school shops, or cooperative work experience: 45 minutes in related courses; and one 45 minute period studying English or Social Studies and a 45 minute elective period. Two semesters of English are required for all juniors. Seniors must take one semester of American History and one semester of American Government. Extra-curricular activities and graduation take place at the home high school.
Eligibility - Students in good standing who are 16 years of age or older, have completed two years of high school, and meet the JVS credit requirements and any program specific requirements are eligible to attend the Upper Valley JVS.
Requirements: Five (5) units of credit are required for acceptance in the JVS.
The following graduation requirements are recommended before enrolling in the JVS:
- Two (2) Math credits
- Two (2) Science credits
- Two (2) Social Studies credits
- Two (2) English credits
- One (1) credit combined Health and Physical Education.
