Chapter Attends National Convention

Four Fort Loramie Agricultural Education students recently attended the National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY accompanied by seven other Upper Valley Career Center satellite chapters. These members include: Elizabeth Kunkler, Andrea Meyer, Amanda Seger and Renee Seger.

FFA members began their trip by taking a tour at the Consolidated Grain & Barge in Aurora, Indiana. There, the members were able to hear about the company’s growth in the grain, soybean and fertilizer transportation industry. They also were able to witness a barge being loaded with grain in the Ohio River and the process of fertilizer being transported on a semi-truck. Then members attended the opening session of the convention, conducted by national FFA officers, where they listened to the keynote speaker, Nick Vujicic. While in Kentucky, they took a tour at Keeneland Race Track in Lexington where members were informed about the track’s history, the process of buying a race horse and shown the various parts of the track. On the last days of the trip, members went to the second and fourth session, where they heard from Elanco’s president’s campaign to stop world hunger.

Two former Fort Loramie FFA members received their American FFA Degrees. These members were Lora Poeppelman and Megan Bruns.
